Walmart Beauty Box with products in front of it

If you love a little beauty treat in the mail and enjoy trying out new products without breaking the bank, Walmart’s seasonal Beauty Box might be just what you need. I recently signed up for the subscription and just received my second box—this time, it’s the spring edition! In this post, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know: how the subscription works, what to expect in each box, and a detailed review of the products I received this season, including retail prices and estimated values. Whether you’re a beauty box newbie or just curious about Walmart’s take on this trend, you’ll get the full scoop right here.

Beauty Box Basics

Here are a few quick details on Walmart’s Beauty Box program.

  • Boxes are sent four times a year corresponding with the seasons.
  • Each box includes 5 – 7 mini to full-size items.
  • Each box is $6.98 (plus tax where applicable).

Signing Up

Walmart has a separate website dedicated to the beauty box program. The page gives some basic information about the program with FAQs, an “about us” page, and a few other links at the bottom. If you’re ready to sign up click “Let’s get started,” and you’ll be taken to a page to add the subscription to your cart.

The price also might catch your eye here – $6.98 per box. Even with tax, this beauty box comes out to less than half of brands like Ipsy and Macy’s and much less than beauty boxes by Birchbox and FabFitFun.

The Spring Box was still available as of mid-April with summer boxes set to launch in early June. The fall box is scheduled for early September and winter is slated for late November. An email notification is sent about a week before you get charged.

Spring’s launch date was March 4. I received my reminder email on February 20, I was charged on March 11, and my box arrived on April 2. The FAQs note that the boxes are shipped in waves so you may receive them early or later than others depending on the season.

Spring Surprises

Now for the fun stuff! My box this month came with five products – including two full-size items. Here’s a breakdown of what was included, how much a full-size version costs, and what the value of the items are. Note: Images are of full-size products.

A box of Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Press-On Nails in French Twist
Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Press-On Nails

Full or Mini: Full size
Retail: $7.48
Value: $7.48

Out of all the items in this month’s box, I’m most thrilled about this one. Sally Hansen is of course an iconic name for all things home manicure. The press-ons I got are called French Twist and feature a black cut-out on the tip rather than a classic white tip. This item alone would normally cost as much as the beauty box subscription so this was a great value right off the bat. Can’t wait to try them out! My only note is that they look like a design typically seen around Halloween or New Years. For the spring box, I would have expected something more in line with the season like a pastel or floral design.

Covergirl Lash Blast Supercloud Mascara

Full or Mini: Full size
Retail: $12.99
Value: $12.99

The other high-value, full-size item I got in the box is this popular mascara. It’s got a nice lightweight formula and provides nice coverage without clumps. If I didn’t already have a favorite mascara, this would be a more exciting item, but that’s common with beauty boxes — they can’t all be winners!

Canister of Degree Sexy Intrigue Dry Spray
Degree Sexy Intrigue Dry Spray

Full or Mini: Mini – 1 oz.
Retail: $ 6.12 for 3.8 oz.
Value: $1.61

According to the pamphlet included with this month’s box, this item was so popular in past boxes that they brought it back for this one. I love the compact size for keeping in my purse in case I’m out and about and need to freshen up. It has a nice aroma I found to be lovely and light with tinges of jasmine and vanilla. I might even do a quick spray on my wrists and neck for double coverage on a busy day.

Bottle of CeraVe Gentle Hydrating Shampoo
CeraVe Gentle Hydrating Shampoo

Full or Mini: Mini – 1 oz.
Retail: $9.97 for 12 oz
Value: .83¢

As a person with sensitive skin, CeraVe is a brand I know well. I’ve been curious about their line of shampoos and conditioners since they came out a few months ago – exclusively at Walmart. They’re supposed to be really good for people with dandruff and/or scalp dryness. The scent is barely there and reminds me of Johnson’s & Johnson’s baby shampoo – not in a bad way. I didn’t notice any big differences after using it a couple of times instead of my usual drugstore shampoo – Pantene. It also seems a little odd to send a shampoo sample without the companion conditioner.

NYX The Face Glue Gripping Primer
NYX The Face Glue Gripping Primer

Full or Mini: Mini – .5 oz.
Retail: $ 8.97 for 1.18 oz.
Value: $3.80

I love a good primer! I don’t know how I survived before them really. Just like the name suggests, it primes your skin before you apply makeup ideally giving you a smooth canvas to start with.  This one has a very lightweight feel – like a thin lotion. Even before I put makeup on it smoothed out my skin and gave it a more even texture. This is the best part of a beauty box – finding something I’ll actually use and getting to try it before I buy it!

The Pros

As with last season’s box, the price and value of this beauty box is a huge selling point. The value of all the items came out to over $26 and I paid less than $8 with tax. The full set of press-on nails and full tube of mascara . The variety is also a perk that other boxes don’t offer. In this box alone, I got two makeup items, a haircare item, a personal care item, and nails!

The Cons

When there’s something I just won’t use in a beauty box it’s a bit of a bummer. In this case, the mascara is a nice item but just not for me personally. This season’s pamphlet included the items I received plus two others – a setting powder and wax strips. Last season, there were at least a dozen products total. I hope in the future there will be a larger “menu” so my box will arrive with a more curated selection based on my beauty profile.

The Mehs

Just as last time, I’m not sure this box feels like “spring” to me. The pamphlet says the items are for going “fresh and glowy” with “springtime radiance.” It’s not a huge deal because I’m looking forward to using my press-ons and having the deodorant spray on hand plus I found a primer I really like. But, the products could definitely be fine-tuned to fit the season or another theme could be used.

All in all, Walmart’s Beauty Box continues to impress when it comes to value and variety. At just $6.98 per box, it’s one of the most affordable beauty subscriptions out there—and with two full-size items this season, it more than pays for itself. While not every item hit the mark for me personally (looking at you, mascara), I still walked away with products I’m excited to use—especially the gripping primer and those edgy press-on nails.

If you enjoy sampling new beauty and personal care products without the higher price tags of other subscription boxes, this is definitely worth considering. Just keep in mind that not every item will feel totally tailored to the season or your personal style—but hey, that’s part of the fun! I’ll be sticking around to see what summer has in store, and I’ll be back with a full review when that box drops.
